Ramsey Coote Bed Wetting Alarm

Ramsey Coote Instruments was founded in 1956 by Peter Coote.  He found that by collaborating with practitioners he developed a high quality robust system to help children become dry at night. Since then there have been over 15 variety of different models which have had innovations such as the elapsed timer, that have been designed and distributed by the Ramsey Coote Instruments team.

Their alarms are medical grade and are generally recognized as achieving some of the best results in the world and are used by the National Health services of both Australia and New Zealand.

Independent medical studies have shown that Ramsey Coote alarms generally achieve an 87% success rate over a 6-8 week period. However, training can sometimes take a little longer depending on the child and in a very few cases this form of treatment may not prove successful.

As part of our “Boss of  your Bladder Programme” for Bedwetting we can now offer the Ramsay Coote as an option when an alarm might be helpful in managing your child’s bedwetting.

How Ramsey Coote Alarms Work

The alarm is supplied along with a comfortable, rubberised mat for your child to sleep on, over which a thin bedsheet is placed. The bed-pad is large and made of soft, rubber with rebated sensors so the child can comfortably maintain a regular sleep routine – they are free to roll around.

The mat is plugged into the pre-charged, battery powered alarm at which stage a test can be made using a paper clip as per instructions.

Ramsey Coote alarms are sophisticated units with a great degree of sensitivity and as soon as your child starts to urinate the alarm will sound, waking them up. They are then required to get out of bed to turn the alarm off and go to the toilet to empty their bladder. (It is this repeated process which trains the child's brain to learn to register bladder pressure and to act on it).

The mat must then be dried, a clean dry sheet replaced and the alarm reset before the child returns to their bed. Gradually, over the following nights, the child should wake more quickly and stem the flow of urine earlier each time until completely dry nights are achieved.

The alarm is charged, via the mains, during one whole day per week (unless your child is taking more than 5 minutes a night to wake up). The unit is driven purely by battery power whilst in use and so remains perfectly safe for your child to use.
